Mr. Barry Zehnder has taught several science classes at NPHS for eleven years. For 15 years prior to becoming a teacher he was a professional blacksmith. He is a graduate of Garaway High School and Kent State University and is currently working on a master’s degree. Zehnder co-founded and advises the high school science club. The club has taken several trips including trips to Costa Rica to study rainforest ecology and the Florida Keys to study coral reef ecology. He is a member of the National Science Teacher’s Association and the Science Education Council of Ohio. He has set up ecology field classrooms at several locations outside the city limits adjacent to streams and ponds where students can gain hands-on education and field experience in environmental science. His classes also walk to the Tuscarawas River several times each week to teach water quality and riparian ecology. Zehnderis married to the former Janet Troendly and they have two children, Zane and Bree.
