Scholarship Winners

The New Philadelphia City Schools Quaker Foundation in conjunction with the New Philadelphia City Schools Board of Education awarded 40 scholarships at its Annual Recognition Banquet held at Union Country Club on Friday, May 4, 2007.  One of the goals of the Quaker Foundation is to provide scholarships to deserving students and this year’s recipients share in $77,500 worth of scholarship money.

Jonathan Angel, son of Seth and Debbie Angel of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller & Family Leadership Scholarship for $3,500. Jonathan plans to attend Malone College and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Keith Ayers, son of Kevin and Amy Ayers of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Chester D. Stocker Memorial Leadership (Rea & Assoc., Inc.) Scholarship for $2,500. Keith plans to attend University of Cincinnati and pursue a career in aerospace engineering.

Ben Behrendt, son of Mark and Carolyn Behrendt of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jessica Keiser Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Ben plans to attend Davidson College and pursue a career in physics.

Melissa Burner, daughter of Edward and Lynn Burner of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Michael Briggs Memorial Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship for $2,500 each year. Melissa plans to attend Malone College and pursue a career in medicine.

Rachel Burns, daughter of Richard Burns and Kathy Burns of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Curtis W. Miller Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,000. Rachel plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Ayesh Butt, daughter of Khurram and Saniya Butt of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,000. Ayesh plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in dentistry or business.

Louis Catola III, son of Lou and Beth Catola of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Adventure Harley-Davidson Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Louis plans to attend The Ohio State University or Kent State University and pursue a career in business.

Devin Conklin, daughter of Judy McGill and Jon Conklin of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the W.V. and Elizabeth W. Buchanan Memorial Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Devin plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in health sciences.

Tiffany Cunningham, daughter of Mark and Tammy Cunninghman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Pepsi Americas Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Tiffany plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in actuarial science as an actuary.

Tonie Dessecker, daughter of Richard and Tina Dessecker of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donald R. and Shirley A. Kimmel Wagner Family Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Tonie plans to attend Kent State University - Main and pursue a career in nursing.

David Dick, son of Joe and Karen Dick of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Marsh Excellence in Fine Arts Scholarship for $1,000. David plans to attend Ohio University and pursue a career in computer engineering and music media.

Rachel Dorsey, daughter of Edward and Julie Dorsey of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donna Stephenson Berndt Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Rachel plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in education.

Matthew Johanning, son of Paul and Darlene Johanning of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Michael Briggs Memorial Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship for $2,500 each year. Matthew plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in chemical engineering.

Doug Johnson, son of Mike and Joan Johnson of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jim Thompson Memorial Basketball Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Doug plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in law.

Keturah Kneuss, daughter of David and Jennifer Kneuss of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Keturah plans to attend Geneva College and pursue a career in communications.

Alison Laughlin, daughter of Darrell Laughlin of Dover and Carol Bichsel of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Kay Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $2,000. Alison plans to attend Washington and Jefferson College and pursue a career in educational nutrition.

Chelsea Lautenschleger, daughter of Rory and Diane Lautenschleger of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a VFW Scholarship for $1,000. Chelsea plans to attend The Ohio State University Newark Campus and pursue a career in speech therapy.

Jordan Lewis, son of Tod and Kathy Lewis of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Vocational Scholarship for $1,500. Jordan plans to attend Pittsburgh Art Institute and pursue a career in graphic design.

Sara Little, daughter of Gary and Kathy Little of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Curtis W. Miller Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,500. Sara plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in chemical engineering with emphasis on agriculture.

Lindsey Lorenz, daughter of Paul and Susan Morehead of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Curtis W. Miller Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,500. Lindsey plans to attend Muskingum College and pursue a career in mathematics education.

Stephanie Mathias, daughter of Brad and Denise Mathias of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a VFW Scholarship for $1,000. Stephanie plans to attend Kent State University - Main Campus and pursue a career in public relations.

Cruz McMillan, son of Troy and Susan McMillan of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donald W. and Mary L. Zimmerman Family / Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Cruz plans to attend Ashland University and pursue a career in marketing.

John Menges, son of David and Judy Menges of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Vocational Scholarship for $1,000. John plans to attend Hocking College and pursue a career as a wildlife officer.

Lindsey Nicholson, daughter of Steve and Katy Nicholson of Sherrodsville, is the recipient of the Chip Graham Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. Lindsey plans to attend Mount Union and pursue a career in music education.

Joe Outman, son of Craig and Pam Outman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Joe plans to attend Bowling Green State University and pursue a career in marketing.

Austin Owens, son of Val and Matt Owens of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a VFW Scholarship for $1,000. Austin plans to attend Boise State University and pursue a career in environmental studies.

David Padro, son of Fred and Mary Ellen Padro of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Peggy and John Stratton Vocational/Technical Scholarship for $2,000. David plans to attend Stark State College of Technology and pursue a career in automotive ASE certification.

Amanda Patterson, daughter of Dave and Sherry Patterson of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Douglas Canfield / Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Amanda plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in business.

Brittany Pipes, daughter of Scott and Janet Pipes of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Chester D. Stocker Memorial Leadership (Rea & Assoc., Inc.) Scholarship for $2,500. Brittany plans to attend Ashland University and pursue a career in early childhood education.

Karie Prysi, daughter of Mark and Marla Prysi of Dover, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Karie plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and is undecided on her career.

Emily Sanders, daughter of Mark and Taonie Stead of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Bob Ed Harris Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $2,000. Emily plans to attend Johnson & Wales University and pursue a career in baking and pastry arts.

Kelsey Snyder, daughter of Gil and Tricia Snyder of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Kelsey plans to attend Maimi University - Ohio and pursue a career as a prosecuting attorney.

Chad South, son of Cameron and Sheryl South of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Zachary Frantz Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Chad plans to attend Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS and pursue a career in the medical field as a physician's assistant.

Matthew Spade, son of Ron and Diane Spade of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dr. Norman Browning and Margaret Davidson Browning Academic Scholarship for $1,500. Matthew plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Nathan Swisshelm, son of Tom and Beth Swisshelm of Stone Creek, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller & Family Vocational/Technical Scholarship for $3,500. Nathan plans to attend Stark State and pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

Amanda Urban, daughter of Bob and Cheryl Urban of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the John and Ann K. Marsh Family Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Amanda plans to attend Otterbein College and pursue a career in nursing.

Courtiney Williams, daughter of Debbie Williams of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Hodder/Williams Memorial / Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Courtiney plans to attend Muskingum College and pursue a career in early childhood education.

Sara Wortman, daughter of Jane and Jerry Wortman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dr. Bruce and Nancy Jackson Academic Scholarship for $3,000. Sara plans to attend Miami University and pursue a career in accounting and possibly law.

Samantha Wottle, daughter of Sue and Eric Wottle of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Mindy Alpeter Memorial / Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Samantha plans to attend Columbus College of Art and Design and pursue a career in fashion design and fine arts.

Michael Zimmerman, son of Brad and Zoe Zimmerman of Dover, is the recipient of the Herman/Dalpiaz Memorial / Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Michael plans to attend Bowling Green State University and pursue a career in nursing or biology.
