The New Philadelphia City Schools Quaker Foundation in conjunction with the New Philadelphia City Schools Board of Education awarded 42 scholarships at its Annual Recognition Banquet held at Union Country Club on Friday, May 2, 2008. One of the goals of the Quaker Foundation is to provide scholarships to deserving students and this year’s recipients share in $82,000 worth of scholarship money.
Scholarship recipients:
Mandy Alcorn, daughter of Tami Alcorn of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Mandy plans to attend Youngstown State and pursue a career in nursing.
Emma Bailey, daughter of Steve and Marcy Bailey of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller and Family Leadership Scholarship for $3,500. Emma plans to attend Baldwin-Wallace College and pursue a career in speech.
Caleb Baker, son of Doug and Tammi Baker of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,000. Caleb plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in radiology/biology.
Taylor Barnett, son of Michael and Diana Barnett of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Douglas Canfield/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Taylor plans to attend Washington and Lee University and pursue a career in law.
Alexander Barrow, son of James and Elizabeth Barrow of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Jerry Johnson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Alexander plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in pharmacy.
Teresa Baumgardner, daughter of William and Bonnie Baumgardner of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dave Korns Memorial Leadership/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Teresa plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in education/English.
Julie Becker, daughter of Jay and Raeann Becker of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Zachary Frantz Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Julie plans to attend Mount Union College and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Jeffery Burgess, son of Robert and Stephanie Burgess of Dover, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Jeffery plans to attend The University of South Florida and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Molly Calhoun, daughter of John and Susan Calhoun of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Chip Graham Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. Molly plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in early childhood education.
Scott Carmany, son of Homer and Elaine Carmany of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the W.V. and Elizabeth W. Buchanan Memorial Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Scott plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in anthropology. Gina Edwards, daughter of Susan Edwards of New Philadelphia and Jack Edwards of Dover, is the recipient of a Michael Briggs Memorial Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship for $2,500 each year. Gina plans to attend The Ohio University – H.T.C. and pursue a career in journalism. Ashley Eppley, daughter of Jay and Melissa Syler of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Quaker Foundation Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Ashley plans to attend Walsh University and pursue a career in broadcasting or law. Aaron Fisher, son of Jim and Casey Fisher of Dover, is the recipient of the Donna Stephenson Berndt Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Aaron plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in education. Jillian Fleming, daughter of Mike and Patty Taylor of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Curtis W. Miller Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,500. Jillian plans to attend Miami University and pursue a career in medicine. Jessica Hatfield, daughter of Tim and Tammy Hatfield of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donald W. and Mary L. Zimmerman Family/Quaker Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Jessica plans to attend Freed-Hardeman University and pursue a career in nursing. Carrie Hayworth, daughter of Jim and Lucy Mawrer of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Marsh Excellence in Fine Arts Scholarship for $2,500. Carrie plans to attend Malone College and pursue a career in music ministry. Aaron Hershberger, son of Perry and Linda Hershberger of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the John and Orlena Marsh Foundation Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Aaron plans to attend Miami University and pursue a career in international business and German. Alyssa James, daughter of Jeff and Laurie James of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Curtis W. Miller Memorial Academic Scholarship for $2,500. Alyssa plans to attend The University of Findlay and pursue a career in pharmacy. Steven Jones, son of Greg and Mary Jane Mendoza of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Mindy Alpeter Memorial/Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Steven plans to attend The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and pursue a career in gaming art and design. Amanda Kurtz, daughter of William and Mary Kurtz of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Adventure Harley-Davidson Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Amanda plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in architecture. Chad Lawver, son of Gary and Sharon Lawver of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the McInturf Scholarship for $1,000. Chad plans to attend Mount Vernon Nazarene University and pursue a career in computer science. Morgan McCrea, son of Bruce and Karen McCrea of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dr. Norman Browning and Margaret Davidson Browning Academic Scholarship for $1,500. Morgan plans to attend The Ohio State University and pursue a career in medicine.
Bryant McKnight, son of Tim and Karen McKnight of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jim Thompson Memorial Basketball Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Bryant plans to attend Brigham Young University and pursue a career in business.
Ali Natoli, daughter of Mark and Pam Natoli of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Pepsi Americas Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Ali plans to attend Walsh University and pursue a career in nursing. Rachael Ramos, daughter of Ricardo and Cheryl Ramos of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Bob Ed Harris Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $2,500. Rachael plans to attend Grace College and pursue a career in journalism/communications with a minor in Spanish. Tanya Reichert, daughter of Gerhard and Gayle Reichert of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Michael Briggs Memorial Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship for $2,500 each year. Tanya plans to attend Akron University and pursue a career in dietetics. Laura Russell, daughter of Don and Cheryl Russell of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Curtis W. Miller Academic Scholarship for $2,000. Laura plans to attend Malone College and pursue a career in medicine. Stephan Sabo, son of Stephen and Harriett Sabo of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Peggy and John Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $1,500. Stephan plans to attend Virginia Tech or Union College and pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Greer St. George, daughter of Terry and Revecka St. George of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Jerry Johnson Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Greer plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a medical office/administrative career. Nicole Staley, daughter of Tim and Holly Staley of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jerry Johnson Memorial Academic Scholarship for $1,000. Nicole plans to attend Muskingum College and pursue a career in nursing. Vanessa Strimbu, daughter of Traci Carruthers and Richard and Patsy Strimbu of New Philadel.phia, is the recipient of the Michael Briggs Memorial Vocational Scholarship for $1,500. Vanessa plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in nursing. Tiffany Swinderman, daughter of Mark and Jane Swinderman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Kay Stratton Leadership Scholarship for $2,000. Tiffany plans to attend Kent State University and is undecided in her career choice Courtney Thomas, daughter of Jennifer Jagunic and Jack Thomas of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Donald R. and Shirley A. Kimmel Wagner Family Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Courtney plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in news broadcasting. Alexis Victor, daughter of Robert and Lois Victor of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Max T. Miller Family Vocational/Technical Scholarship for $3,500. Alexis plans to attend the Cleveland Institute of Art and pursue a career in industrial design. Katie Warner, daughter of Don and Sally Warner of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Hodder/Williams Memorial/Quaker Foundation Scholarship for $1,000. Katie plans to attend Walsh University and pursue a career in early childhood education Samuel Weisgarber, son of Bill and Jody Weisgarber of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Chester D. Stocker Memorial Leadership (Rea Foundation) Scholarship for $2,500. Samuel plans to attend Otterbein College and pursue a career in political science/history teacher education/law. Ryan Zimmerman, son of Keith and Deb Zimmerman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of a Marsh Excellence in Fine Arts Scholarship for $2,500. Ryan plans to attend Mount Union or Otterbein College and pursue a career in music education.
Lindsey Merryman, daughter of Marty and Diane Merryman of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Dr. Bruce and Nancy Jackson Academic Scholarship for $3,000. Lindsey plans to attend Ohio University and pursue a career in physical therapy.
Ashley Perrine, daughter of Beth Perrine of New Philadelphia, is the recipient of the Jean Herron Memorial Leadership Scholarship for $1,000. Ashley plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and pursue a career in business management.
